No, I don't think so. I have played some more and there is definitely
something I'm doing wrong. Whatever I enter into the search field, I get
the same result - even if it is something I know is above the horizon
(like Polaris).

I think my problem is that I have not had a chance to read the manual
(assuming there is one) and I don't know how to set up and use the
catalogues properly.

I have a star map which uses HIP and HD numbers and I want to identify
these as their equivalent Flamsteed numbers &/or simply conventional
nomenclature (Delta Pavionis, for example). For example, HIP 70890 is
Proxima Centauri; I know that is below the horizon where I live but I
have tried other HIP numbers but to no effect. I have the HIP catalogue
installed and I thought I had the HD catalogue installed but, when I
enter the numbers in Search, I get the reported result.

So really, I am just floundering about at present.

Cheers,

Mike

Mike,

could it be the star is below the horizon? Can you find the star on the
screen by yourself and then confirm it's visible with the current
settings? Not sure if you mentioned the version you're using. In 3.x the

screen will not zoom in to show the object if it doesn't pass the
current filter settings.
