Mike,
I just enabled the HIP catalog in a recent 3.x snapshot. I then searched
for HIP 70890 and got no hits. I then searched for just 70890 and it
found it just fine although it was below the horizon. I then went to the
program settings and went to Observatory->Horizon. There I selected the
'Show Object below the horizon' checkbox. It now finds and shows the
star correctly.
I think CdC should find the star with the extension. I've recently had
other trouble with searching and logged a bug. Patrick has commented in
it and I need to try out his suggestions.
