I believe I have the HIP catalogue properly enabled but I am using V
2.76 and don't seem to have the "Show object below horizon" option.
However, that should still mean I could search for and find Polaris (I
am about 30 miles ENE of London (Chelmsford).

I shall try again and see what happens. When you say "CdC should find
the star with the extension", what extension are you talking about?

May I say how much I appreciate your help and guidance.

Cheers,

Mike

Mike,

I just enabled the HIP catalog in a recent 3.x snapshot. I then searched

for HIP 70890 and got no hits. I then searched for just 70890 and it
found it just fine although it was below the horizon. I then went to the

program settings and went to Observatory->Horizon. There I selected the
'Show Object below the horizon' checkbox. It now finds and shows the
star correctly.

I think CdC should find the star with the extension. I've recently had
other trouble with searching and logged a bug. Patrick has commented in
it and I need to try out his suggestions.
