Hi Sunrise Dreamer: You expressed my views far better than I would have done it! If our women had kept quiet, whatever opportunities they have now would have slipped under the abyss of forgetfulness! In 1973, buses in my city had NO LIFTS; if the disabled had kept quiet, no change shall have been made.
Sighted world? Hmm, they're still blind like you and I! They don't have eyes at the back of their heads! I take long walks with them now and then; if I fail to grab my cane when we go out, they shove me into a pole and simply say: "I'm so sorry!" Why so? They're terribly absent-minded and when you tell them that, they get upset even when the truth stares them in the face! In my city, the bus company is finally beginning to use GPS technology such that the bus stops are announced; in the past, I have to tell the drivers where I want off; they forget all the time and I've had to report a few of them! If I had kept quiet because it's a sighted world, I doubt if the audio anouncement of bus stops shall have been implemented. Even sighted folks fight and agitate for rights and privileges--so, why should the blind or other folks with disabilities be left out in the cold? The world is for us all! Let's just hope that humans can learn to keep making it a fair place for all, disabled or otherwise.
