Hmmm. I though the replacement for the database store would be the
JDBC / J2EE we are currently merging and getting to work. It is
available in the proposals section. Admittedly, it is incompatible to
the database stores in slidestore, but I see no way to carry further
the old DB schema design.

Yes, the are the planned replacement and I would consider the JDBC stores obsolete as soon as a migration tool exists. I will write such a tool, but there no time table. As long
as there is no tool to convert existing stores, they should not be dropped completely.

Nothing will be dropped completely :) Just talking about moving it to a place that indicates the stuff is not functional and/or will not be maintained any more. I still think we should do this with the JDBC stores and also j2ee store in slidestore in order not to confuse people about what DB store to use and what works ok.

What about MemoryStore? What is it good for in the first place?

Not that useful. But you could use it for example for the Lock store. Also nice for testing. But not essential.

So, ok. I'd propose to keep it then. I suppose it works correctly?

Btw. in SQLServerSchema.sql: Why is URI_STRING in URI not UNIQUE?
A short glimpse over StandardRDMBS does not show any protection against a concurrent creation of two URI_ID for the same uri.

Also there are some more unique constraints uncommented. For performance or is there an other reason.

Concerning the DB schema: This is the mostly unchanged version as submitted by Ashok. Only change is in PERMISSIONS table for ordering of entries and a minor adaption to make it work with Sybase. That's why I can only speculate about this (maybe Ashok get's around and can help...):
1. I have no idea why some unique constraints are commented out :(
2. URI_STRING in URI should be UNIQUE. Agreed! Still, if you have a reasonable isolation level - say repeatable read, assureUriId guarantees uniqueness. The bad news is: the store does not seem to work with isolation higher than read committed (at least for us with MS SQLServer 2000 and Sybase 11) :( To investigate this and finally get it fixed is my primary assignement.

P.S :Got my new iX yesterday. Fine article.

Thanks, although I had to admit to myself I am certainly not Ernest Hemingway or the like ;)
