I've recently set up a box with a DAC960 series RAID controller in it,
and performance is swoit! ;)
Its probably one of the better supported RAID systems, and hotswap and
the like aparently work nicely. VA was also using it in some of their
machines, so there is a nice management tool (varmon) availible.
I'm running it on an old Digital Dual PII box, which is running the
array quite well. The only tricky bit with the driver is that you
need recentish firmware to make it work, and with debian, you have to
use the compact boot/root (rather than the standard one).
