Alex, The path is about 15 feet across the room, using the rubber duckie antennas so I don't think it is an antenna alignment issue or a signal strength issue. A second airpoint pro substituted for this unit does not exhibit the problem.
As far as changing the IP address fixing the first problem, I now have an airpoint pro that is on a completely different subnet from any of the other equipment. It makes it difficult to manage when it is not using the address ranges that everything else in you network uses. I would not call that fixing the problem.
