You haven't said whether you tried to get signal from their place through the tree on top of their roof ?What was it like ? ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: "Gloria Vester" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Mon, 18 Aug 2003 22:04:22 -0500The tree is not on their property, it is on their next door neighbor's. Believe me, if it was on their property that tree would have been history the day we first went out there. The customer wants this service really bad. We are in an area where the only options for Internet access are dial up or ISDN. We are the first broadband provider here and people want it very badly. Anyway, what good would it do to put it in the tree? Its still going to be surrounded by foliage, isn't it? The trees are going to be a problem for us at many locations, not just this one. We are just getting started, this is only our second install. I think we are going to have to rethink the NLOS equipment, its just the cost of the CPE that kept us from going with something like Waverider to begin with. I thought I could figure this one out, butIamout of ideas. We have been working on a customer install for over aweeknow with no success. I apologize if this is a long post, but I want togiveyou the correct info. The customer is a real estate office about 2 miles south of our watertower. They want our most expensive business package and are not quibbling over money for equipment or the install fee. We went there last Monday and discovered a huge tree directly in our LOS. No way to go over itwithoutatower, this tree is at least 60' tall. One story building on a mainhwy. The only way to get LOS is to go out next to the highway where we canseearound the tree. Problem then is that we are in the highway right ofway. The customer asked if we could mount their antenna on a moveable tripodandthey would put it out by the road each morning and bring it into their carport each night. As crazy as it sounded, we agreed. Then we started trying to get them hooked up. Discovered they had the Blaster worm, cleanedand removed it. Tried a D-Link 520+ PCI card with an 18dbi Maxrad panel antenna and got a good signal. We were able to associate once. Butwhenwetried to get on the Internet, their computer wouldn't resolve any DNSnames. We worked on that problem off and on for three days before I discoveredthatthe TCP/IP stack was corrupted. I downloaded FixXPWinsock utility andfixedthat. Then their computer kept locking up. So I uninstalled the D-Linkandit stopped locking up. So I gave them an airBridge Indoor, but have not been able to associate with the access point. Tried a bigger antenna, a 24dbi grid. Could get good signal strength, but could not associate.Eachtime I switch them back over to their dial up account so they can workuntilwe get back up there, the TCP/IP stack gets corrupted. I have fixed itatleast a dozen times. This is costing me a fortune in man hours and wearegetting nowhere. The customer really, really wants this service andtheywant to help promote our business - setup a display in their office withourflyers and brochures, putting our stuff in their welcome baskets for new residents, etc. But they are losing faith in us and I am starting towonderif we should just tell them we can't do it. At this point my optionsaretoreformat their computer to fix the flakiness and corrupted winsock, andthenhope it will associate and work right, or just tell them we can't hookthemup. If any of you have any ideas, please let me know. I really wantthiscustomer, but I don't know what else to try. I know this was long, andIleft out a lot of things we have tried to do, but I really need helphere.Thank you in advance for your help, Gloria The PART-15.ORG smartBridges Discussion List To Join: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (in the body type subscribesmartBridges <yournickname>To Remove: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (in the body type unsubscribesmartBridges)Archives: http://archives.part-15.orgThe PART-15.ORG smartBridges Discussion List To Join: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (in the body type subscribesmartBridges <yournickname>To Remove: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (in the body type unsubscribesmartBridges)Archives: http://archives.part-15.orgThe PART-15.ORG smartBridges Discussion List To Join: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (in the body type subscribe smartBridges <yournickname> To Remove: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (in the body type unsubscribe smartBridges) Archives: http://archives.part-15.org --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Declude Virus By Avolve.net]--- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Declude Virus By Avolve.net] The PART-15.ORG smartBridges Discussion List To Join: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (in the body type subscribe smartBridges <yournickname> To Remove: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (in the body type unsubscribe smartBridges) Archives: http://archives.part-15.org
