He is using solar power, in other words he has a real massive UPS
system.

You are right; we have ran across the same problem with customers in the

I can't find the email, but I think you said the farmer has to generate
his 
own power.
I'm wondering just how "clean" his power is. While I've never check on
what 
kind of
filtering (if any) SB has on it's power supplies, if he has dirty power 
this might be
causing some of your problems. You could plug the radio into a UPS
system
running on the battery and see if it helps.

Just an idea, good luck figuring this out.
