Scott, I have just a couple things to add to the list of possible problems based on what you have posted. I do think that the help of Alex and the sB guys will help, but Mark hit a very good point also.
I have a 3 pop sB network and I help out another WISP who is running a sB network of about 8 pops. From these combined I have been able to learn a great deal. The other WISP I help had the same type of problem pop up about 2 or 3 weeks ago. He has several Blaster infected clients on his dial up system that were flooding his entire network and killing his Cisco router. It would load the RAM and then lock up. The problem was a PITA and he ended up upgrading to a much better Cisco with more RAM and that helped a lot of the issues until he could get the infected clients offline and fixed. He also was having many problems with one link @ about 13 miles. It was APPO to an ABO. He swapped the ABO for another APPO and now the link has been rock solid. Throughput went up, ping times dropped and the system works much better overall now with no retrans and good numbers. Next I have had some strange issues pop up from time to time that I have found were caused by a local dumb ass who put an amp and different antenna on a Linksys wireless router. He was sending out so much junk into the air that it was freaking out my links causing some very random lock ups. I would power cycle to clear the APPO and then hope it would stay up for 24 hours! Sometimes it would, sometimes it would die an hour later. The more the dork used his super hot Linksys crap the more I got screwed. First thing I would do in your shoes is follow Marks advise and the sniffing to see if a virus is causing the issue because it sure does sound the same as what I have seen. Second I would sell my left one... to make it an APPO to APPO link. From what has been published by sB you should not have to spend the extra $ for an APPO, but you do get what you pay for and at the price rate of sB hardware I know I have been damn happy. Lastly I would try the new firmware unless getting an APPO will take longer than day and then it would get moved up to "I will do anything to get this damn thing to work before I go bald" status. On a side note my newborn has been keeping me up all hours. If there is anything I can do feel free to email me on or off list and I will reply or call you whenever you would like. Time has little to do with an upset baby so I will be around and as long as you don't mind just a bit of whimpering (from me and lack of sleep), I will do all I can to help out. Thomas D.
