While this is true I would not consider this to be very practical. You will end up with a big pile of opaque huge files. You will not be able to list snapshots or delete old snapshots. You need to take care of inventing a consistent naming convention. If you send incremental snaps you must never delete any of the older BLOB files in that chain. You cannot verify ZFS checksums, you will just notice on restore that your backup stream has been corrupted ever since. The list goes on and on, I would never even consider this kind of approach.
