I Know, but if he follows the online manuals then after 2 hours he will
discover that everything was done for nothing and that he should start over
again.

(and the last time I tried the dev packages 2 weeks ago, they still needed AVX)

Not entirely correct,

the release branch is using AVX for optimal performance we’ve started
releasing dev packages with out AVX for people on oder/test hardware

Since he is using an R610 i urge to look at the FiFo HCL, since you need to
have a processor with AVX capabilities.

I assume the R610 will not have a processor with AVX.

Hi Alex,

give Project-FiFo[1] a try it runs very well on a single node as there is no
concept of a headnote or something like that just a few zones (on a single
node 2-3 depending on how you set it up).

Hello,

I am looking for a guide to install SmartOS on single home lab server, a DELL
R610 with a Solarflare 10G NIC and an LSI SAS controller attached to a 24 disk
SAS enclosure.

This is happily running ESXI 5.5 for a while now and i recently wanted to move
to SmartOS.
I followed the installation guide for COAL first to try on VMWARE fusion on my
Mac pro. I got everything installed including SDC and then changed the
configuration to allow provisioning on the head node as i only have 1 server.
As much as i try to create an instance, the provision button is disabled and i
can not understand why.

Questions:

1. Is there a guide about installing on a single home lab server?
2. Any way of diagnosing why i can not provision?
3. Should Solarflare NIC be working at 10GB?

Thanks in advance,

Alex Kritikos
