Hey Alex, It was actually Dale who ported the new driver from FreeBSD to Illumos to extend the support for new gigabit networking for Xeon-Ds.
So, I wanted to take the moment and thank him for his amazing work. Without his work, most of Xeon-Ds would be dry on SmartOS ;) Good job, Dale! All the best.
