In summary, you can only have one device directly connected to the cable modem, as you only have one real IP address. That device needs to do the connection sharing (Network Address Translation, or NAT) to allow other devices to use the connection. Either you need to run a cable back from the Time Capsule, or use an alternative router at the cable modem, and change the Time Capsule to just act as an access point rather than routing.

You can't use an ADSL router as it only has an ADSL WAN port, not an ethernet one. You need a router that is specifically ethernet, and might be sold as a cable or broadband router. You need to be clear about 'outside' and 'inside' networks - the connection between the cable modem and the router (your Time Capsule) at the moment, is 'outside' and everything else that's connected wired or wirelessly to the Time Capsule is 'inside'. You can't add anything else to the 'outside' network, only swap the Time Capsule for an alternative router.

Hope that makes things clearer!
