Thanks Sam - I have now downloaded Hazel.

The problem I have now encountered is that I can't fully empty the
Trash. There were over 100,000 files and at first the computer kept
crashing part way through (screen dimming slowly down from the top).
Eventually I got it down to 15,000 files but always the crash and same
number left in Trash after re-boot. I downloaded TrashIt but it
didn't work. I then tried using Terminal with the sudo rm -rf etc
command and got it down a bit more; then realised that I needed to
specify external drives and did the sudo etc with the Volumes/
*/.Trashes etc command.

That sorted out most of the files, but now I am left with a stubborn
group of 19 files in Trash. They all originated on the FreeAgent
drive, all are shown as Alias with Zero KB on disk but they will not
go away.

Any thoughts on how to clear out these last few files?

David
