Thanks for all suggestions. For reasons given below, I'm still looking! Both suggested mini-apps looked good, but neither seems to work with 10.6.6.
If I could make the pointer jump in size for a moment, that would be useful: but I don't need a vast pointer on screen all the time, just to be able to find it when I can't see it.
