is the one that brought up helmets. You are entitled to your opinion as much
as I am. You might find it ridiculous to fine an 8 y/o, I see it as him
learning a lesson so that next time he might be more careful when he's out
jumping sand hills on his bike and watch out for traffic and possibly save
his life.

Jumping sand hills isn't the problem. Jumping sand hills in a freaking road
is the problem. I guess telling a kid not to goof off on a bike in the
street is the wrong thing to do. Just around the house, my kids don't wear a
helmet b/c of the kind of street we live on, but as soon as they get out on
the main road with other cars, their helmet is on or they don't ride. I've
seen what can happen when your head hits pavement w/o a helmet, and I've
seen what helmets can do to save your skull from cracking open. I have also
seen what playing around on a bike in the street can do. Let's not forget
when we were kids, there weren't as many cars on the road as there are now
and most of them probably weren't driving as fast as people do now. Now I'm
sorry that my opinion on this won't waver. I helped a friend that owned a
bike shop teach bike safety classes to young kids and most of them didn't
realize that they had to obey the rules of the road when they are on their
bike. They just assumed b/c it wasn't a car that they could do whatever they
wanted, which is the wrong opinion to have. At some point in time they have
to learn responsibility for their actions and sometimes just having the
parent take care of the problem won't work.

wasnt fined for a helmut though he was fined for not yielding the right of
way. and your free to have your opinion. but i m also free to
have mine and i think fining an 8 yr old child (which if you think
about it is a second or third grader) is beyond ridiculous
