I would like to establish a data link between two locations about a quarter mile apart. At one of the locations I have to run a line about 200 feet to an antenna location on a rooftop about 20 feet above ground.
I was thinking the best way to do this would be to run a LAN line to the location to connect to a dedicated computer and Access Point. Then this dedicated box would feed a proper directional antenna, with a minimal antenna feed cable, to link me with the second location. It would be easiest if I could power this using Power over Ethernet. At the second site I only have to go about 50 feet. I was thinking of an antenna mast to get the antenna about 10 feet above ground. This site also would be easiest if I could power the system using Power over Ethernet. Has anyone in this group done this type of installation? Is there turn-key equipment I could buy that I could plug into my LAN router in both houses and setup the link? Does anyone have advice of what to avoid, as well as what works? I have been thinking of 802.11g or 802.11n equipment. Is there any equipment in the WiMax field that might be a better idea? I have fallen a bit behind in the latest developments. Cost is a consideration. I expect to spend several hundred dollars to do the job right but do not have an unlimited budget. Thanks......
