I would highly recommend against putting a laptop in the lobby. How about a Shuttle box hidden behind the counter, with the keyboard and monitor showing?
If someone spills coffee or water on the laptop keyboard it will be $$$$$$. If does the same on a desktop keyboard, just replace the keyboard.
