Thanks for your suggestions, but cu seems to be too old and weird for me
to deal with. I am back to minicom, but with a simplification:
I am going direct (more or less) from port /dev/ttyS0 to the Soekris
5501 serial port - eliminating the KeySpan USA-19QW serial to USB
converter.
Folks have reported that minicom 'works for me' on this list, so I think
it must be a configuration issue somewhere on my part.
The 'more or less' includes various gender changers and a MiniTracker
box with LEDs to show the state of the lines (this has been there all
the time - may be part of the problem - with pin loading, but I don't
think so).
The state of the pins at idle (waiting at > for command) is
pin 23 4568 11 20
color GG RRRR ~ R
-------------------------- G=green, R=red, ~ = dim, reddish
When I try to send data, it seems as though pin 2 and 3 flicker. This is
consistent with those being the data lines.
