I recently upgraded my home router from net4801 to net6501 in order to keep up with faster xfinity internet. I run LEAF (leaf.sourcfeforge.net) embedded Linux, booting with syslinux. I bought both 8gb and 16gb Sandisk Cruzer fit USB thumbdrives, the same kind Soekris sells. The 16gb USBs work fine, but I can't get the 8gb to boot the net6501 to save my life. Just hangs after the rom messages and goes no further.
This is of course no big deal since I have the multiple 16gb thumbdrives booting the 6501 just fine. Have other folks booted the net6501 using Sandisk Cruzer fit 8gb thumbdrives with syslinux? Are they known to work/not work/maybe work? Other than this, the net6501 works great, easily handling 50 mbps xfinity internet for my home office. The net4801 maxed out at around 15 mbps or so. It worked great too, just hated to to lose out on any throughput my ISP gives me! I've repurposed the 4801 as a tiny web server.
