I love software disconnected from gatesware. ECSS works great for me (I'll
admit I'm sucking up because I prefer Alberto's software). The only problem I
have with it is the center frequency will shift off the set point when it trys
to lock to carriers off to the side. It will walk across the band when there
are multiple carriers present in an AM qso. I would prefer it stay on the set
frequency and not try to move outside the set capture range. This forces the
operator to move the set point to relock to a carrier but the capture range is
where the operator wants it. If I was a smart guy I would have the software
drop out of ECSS back to AM when there was no carrier present to lock to after
X?? time. Once the ECSS mode has a lock go back to that mode. When you are in
an AM QSO with a number of guys I find most times nobody is zero beat so ECSS
tends to walk across the QSO and land at one side. Then the next guy comes on a
bit outside of the capture range so you have to select
AM retune and reselect ECSS. If the software dropped back to AM you would at
least hear the guy while you retune. It is very hard to shift the center
frequency while in ECSS mode.
I don't think the capture range should be made wider because it could degrade
audio quality.
ECSS does sound very nice listening to a broadcast station. frank

Just an observation: I have a winradio G303i that I have been
using at times with winrad, etc. I loaded Vista last week (32bit), but winradio
demod doesn't run. Hardware control is ok, so I load it without a demod and
try the different 3rd party demods I have. Only Winrad and SDRadio work, and
they work just fine in Vista. All the others I have do not. Again I say "good
job, alberto". (I hope that doesn't sound like sucking up). I can still listen
while I wait for the right drivers. I will still use winrad then for ssb, it
beats winradio ssb hands down. But, the ECSS in SDRadio gies me a low freq
sound like rushing wind. That's not a criticism, just helpful info. Could the
soundcard skew cause that? I tried different settings, but no change. I know
you've said that you will someday incorporate those modes into winrad. Also,
how does Sync AM differ from ECSS?

  thanks, Bill Kulze
