I have been seeing the posts on receiving below 2.1 mHz, modifying a radio, etc.

Last April I purchased an Elektor SDR, assembled and ready to use. Their cost
is $139.60. I fought trying to get it work right and found the motherboard
soundcards on the desktop and laptop I had didn't handle the I Q signals very
well. This month I found a website talking about what sound cards worked and
purchased an external USB card and all troubles vanished.

My Elktor works perfect with Winrad and G8JCFSDR software. I prefer the G8. I
have a selection of Yaseu, Hallicrafters, National, Kenwood receivers, but the
SDR takes the edge over all of them. I noticed Elktor has a software
selectable preselector for $75.90 that just came out. While mine works well
without it, I can see where it can be an improvement.

Only reason I poked my nose in here was what others are trying to achieve by
tuning below 2 mHz, I have at the price of $140. I was tuning in the airport
beacons below 540 kHz around 400 kHz. I hear signals down to 150 kHz. AM
broadcast is exceptional, so it SSB on 75 meters, 40 and 20 meters. Does a
great job filtering and hearing the really weak signals. I am comparing it to
the Kenwood TS440 transceiver. Put a bandpass filter or preselector in front
of it, doubt if it can be beat, from what I have see on You Tube posts of SDR
radios.

There is a learning curve.
