"vdr command":
vdr -c /etc/vdr/ -L /usr/lib/vdr/plugins/ -P"softdevice -vo dfb:"

"/etc/directfbrc":
mode=768x576
primary-layer=2
depth=32
matrox-crtc2
matrox-tv-standard=pal
matrox-cable-type=scart-rgb
no-vt-switching
no-vt-switch
no-vt

"/etc/fb.modes":
mode "PAL"
    geometry 768 576 768 576 32
    timings  67723 106 1 44 1 70 4
    csync high
    laced true
    bcast true
endmode

I'm fairly sure the mode "PAL" came from the DirectFB readme.

With softdevice -vo dfb:mgatv, the first head (I've still got a
monitor connected) displays the text output of directfb/vdr and also 3
copies of the video stream with the wrong colours. With -vo dfb: the
console text goes purple and there is no video visible on the first
head.

2nd head display is identical, except -vo dfb: is marginally sharper
with small white text on black, while -vo dfb:mgatv looks almost
anti-aliased. The difference is slight, but exists.

I don't know much about this sort of thing, but surely the sync signal
must exist, otherwise I would see scrolling images?
