This is the only valid path. But it will take > some time. Once Blender will get rid of it's Z up and get it's interface a little civilized, it's already mature enough to strike pretty hard. Performance wise, it's already far ahead of any other DCC on the market. Unfortunately, the foundation leadership hast it's obsessions and I think they stick on some non-standard choices to kind of maintain the software a side of the industry.
