yes, we publish an asset and you get a full resolution xsi model and another model which is just the lightweight arnold standin. that script is swapping the resolutions. that is all
we don't do hundreds at a time we also can skip the importing as full resolution, and just import the standin. we get good at knowing where to place something from the proxy model. also, these are wrapped into more models (layout asset types) and we break up with workload. we don't have full access to all the data at all levels from just one lighting scene. we use the asset manager and good organizational skills to get at the sub assets, make changes, republish and re render.
