I Highly recommend Unity 3D despite a slightly higher monthly cost. Unity also does not have any royalties. And although it is more expensive it has a couple huge things going for it: One) it is an interactive platform foremost. So, while you can make great games with it, it is easier to make it become what you want it to be; there is less battling FPS elements to make it a non-game like in other engines. Two) the Unity Asset Store: if you do not have either the skill or the resources to extend the capabilities of Unity 3D, chances are that somebody else has already done what you need it to do and are either selling it for a modest price on the asset store, or are giving away the tool for free.
