I see what you are pointing out but again this is apples and oranges and that quote misses context :)
Softimage != Arnold, full animation package with an API vs a rendering engine that IS an API... In Softimage's case AD is/was trying to convince us to switch to a competing product, in this case they are trying to sell a C4D user Maya through restricting their access to a rendering engine?
