It is fun you propose all these solutions, my take (and I wrote about this a long time ago on my blog) is that Houdini makes a lot of sense as the backbone of your pipeline.
Meaning, if you model, animate and then pass all the info to Houdini and take it from there till the end you have the flexibility of utilising many render engines and management makes a ton of sense) Redshift is unbelievable but sometimes you really need Mantra because you are doing something very custom and it will sit nicely alongside Redshift so time is proving this is the way forward. Actually my thinking is you should render where you are doing your FX because there is where special cases will be needed and happens to be the perfect playground for Houdini. :-) jb > On 10 Oct 2016, at 11:29, Mirko Jankovic <[email protected]> wrote: > > Or you get Redshift for Houdini and happy rendering times comes :) > ᐧ > > On Mon, Oct 10, 2016 at 12:28 PM, Jordi Bares <[email protected] > <mailto:[email protected]>> wrote: > Indeed Houdini is becoming more friendly on the shader front, you certainly > want to explore the Principled Shader rather than building your shaders from > scratch every time. > > jb > >> On 10 Oct 2016, at 11:10, Rob Wuijster <[email protected] >> <mailto:[email protected]>> wrote: >> >> Hi Chris, >> >> - Create a mantra node in /out >> - switch in the rendering tab the rendering engine to Physically Based >> Rendering. >> - start using the Disney Principal Shader in /shop >> >> or use arnold instead ;-) >> >> Rob >> \/-------------\/----------------\/ >> On 10-10-2016 11:54, Chris Marshall wrote: >>> Thanks Jordi, >>> A quick couple of questions about your shading introduction. >>> On page 152 you say you add the lambert shader to the BSDF port as you're >>> using the PBR engine. >>> OK So this is making a few assumptions. >>> PBR Engine?
