> > "This is a waste of time.", added the Staff Chief from Admin and
Support. "Instead of doing, we are meeting. This is another problem we
have. We are always in meetings." It was clear that he was frustrated,
and he was not alone. Several officers began to voice their displeasure
of
having another meeting to attend. All the grousing was, of course, just a
guise for their displeasure at having thier schedules dictated by another
officer, and a lower ranking one at that.

> Not all bucked, but many did.

>Aurellius just looked at his boss.

For her part, Kitanya wished they could get rid of some of these has-beens
as well. They wanted to 'do' instead of talk? Then why hadn't anything
been done before now - LONG before now. Kit thought all they wanted to
'do' was sit on their lazy asses and watch the coverage of the fleet
falling to pieces on FNN.

>After a few minutes of grousing the room fell silent, and fast. An old
looking man had entered, wearing the uniform of the CinC of Starfleet.
Lasiter had been listening from the anteroom.
>
> "Please don't get up on my account." he said taking note that no-one
had. "In order to accomplish more than merely having an interesting talk
during meetings of Starfleet Command, it is vital that the division
officers be properly prepared. That is, afterall, a critical part of your
jobs as chiefs of staff. These meetings prior to SF Command meetings will
only help you do that. They will also provide you with the oppertunity to
collectively pose questions to my chief of staff. That is the reason for
them.
>
> Now, in the future, when you sit here in one of these meetings remember
two things. First, is how are you treated by your respective commands?
That same level of respect should be given to all officers present at
these
meetings. Second, is that Commander is my Chief of Staff. Just as you
are
the chiefs of staff for your divisional commanders. Meaning, he speaks
for
me, and to disrespect him is to disrespect me. That *will* cause you to
have a short career.", he said looking around at the room, particularily
at
those who were the most indignant.
>
> "Please continue. Vice Admiral Kitayna, please stop by my office when
you are done here. Thank you."

She simply nodded. She wasn't sure, in his current mood, whether this was
a good thing or a bad thing.

>With that he left....

Kitanya remained standing after he left, then looked around at the others,
giving them a brief look of disgust before turning to Aurelius. "Stay if
you want, it's yourrr call," she said quietly. "I'm not surrre why he
wants to talk to me, but it neverrr fails to be interrresting," she said,
then left the quibbling command staff behind. All their whining in her
sensitive ears had given her a headache.

She went into Lasiter's office and stood at attention before his desk.
"Sirrr, you wished to speak with
me?"

Looking up from a report on something or other, Lasiter said, "Please have a seat and
make yourself comfortable. John Black checked in this morning while we were goofing
off at that staff meeting down stairs. He reports that he has just sent Captain
Polath and a good team through the rift into Felinid space. Their recon mission is
scheduled to last 48 hours, and will be followed up with other missions. It also
seems as if the Klingons sent some re-enforcements as well. Once they heard that
Black was in command out there with the blessing of the CinC and their most trusted
friend at SF Command, youself, they decided to send a pair of spec ops craft to be
commanded by Captain Polath. I have a call into the Chancellor to thank him for his
support, and I thought you would like to know the developments." He said rather
pleased with the turn of events- progress on the Felinid front and greater cooperation
between the Federation and the Klingons. A great day so far.

"You are quite correct, that is not the reason that I wanted to see you. The *real*
reason concerns M'Rrenn. I understand that he wants a transfer to the field. Some BS
notion that he can't be a real captain if he does not have more field command
experience. Also heard that he spoke to you about this. Any thoughts on his real
motives?" Samuel said honestly curious, and not the least bit sarcastic.
