"Why did they have two tails, then?" Ceran asked, looking at the holo hovering in front of her.
"Nobody really knows for sure," Serana replied, "Although the general theory is that it helped them maneuver in water."
They were studying Venasian ocean creatures. Since Ceran wasn't able to go to school on Earth right now due to security risks, Serana had started home schooling Ceran, if anything to keep her daughter's mind off her errant brother.
In the middle of the lesson, Serana got a call. "Uhh... Doctor D'amondra?"
"Yes. Hello, Lucas," she greeted, turning on the vidscreen.
Relief at her normal restored appearance registered on his face, followed closely by worry. "Uh, sorry to bother you. I heard you were out of surgery, but I ddin't want to bother you in post-op, and I wouldn't if it weren't a pretty big emergency, but there isn't enough staff..."
"What is it, Lucas?" Serana cut in.
"It's Admiral Garibaldi, Doctor. He was one of the casualties in the attack at the Lasiter funeral..."
Serana frowned. "I wasn't told what happened... never mind. Is it bad?"
"It looks bad, Doc. He took a direct hit. It's been a while since I was in the field, and I'm not trained for ER surgery..."
"I know what you've been trained in, Lucas," Serana said briskly, rising, "Is he stabilized?"
"Yes."
"Keep him there. I'll be there in 2 minutes."
Ceran shrieked, "MOM! Dr. Carlisle made me PROMISE you wouldn't go out before he said it was okay!" She jumped up and down in panic.
Serana pulled on her uniform jacket, ignoring the twinges she felt in her epidermis. Actually, he daughter was probably right. "Water bug, I would agree if I had just internal surgery. But I had skin grafts, and a friend of mine is in bad shape. I have to go, dear." She knelt down. "Try to understand, Ceran. You have my memories. You know how long Garibaldi has been my friend."
Ceran frowned, and after an eternity, she nodded sternly. "Okay. But if you feel *anything* at all, then you have to call Dr. Brennan."
"Deal, water bug."
A few minutes later, Serana walked into Sickbay and found Garibaldi. "Status," she said crisply to Lucas.
Lucas relayed the readings and treatments given thus far. He was shot twice- once int he back and another in the center of his chest. He was no longer in shock, although he arrived heading deep into shock. The wounds were sealed by the blast, so there was not much in the form of bleeding. Although, there was some internal bleeding that if not addressed soon would cause serious problems. His blood pressure was low, but stable. It had been decreasing ever since he was stabilized. His heart rate was similar- lowering and beating with less strength. Garibaldi had been given fluids and a dose of epi in triage.

Before anything further could be done, the bio-bed started to scream. Marcus Garibaldi was having a heart attack.
