"I swear, Garibaldi, if I get you through this, you're going to owe me big time," Serana muttered, "Okay, now adjust the setting to the defib.  Place it on his chest, in position.... that's right.  Is it reading that it's directly above his heart?  Look at the screen... Yes?  Now activate it."

He did, and it sent a stimulant directly into the Admiral's heart.  The nurses all turned to the monitor anxiously...

The first attempt failed, but an increase in power with the second jolt did the trick.  His heart restarted and stabilized into a strong healthy rythm.  Blood pressure improved a bit as well.  Perhaps the internal bleeding was proving to more of a threat to Garibaldi's life than previously thought.

"All right, all right," Serana calmed everyone down.  She directed the nurses in stabilizing the Admiral.  Lucas, paler than a moonbug, breathed hard, feeling like he had just suffered a heart attack himself.   Abruptly, he ran to the sink and vomited rather noisily into it.

Sympathetically, one of the nurses handed him a towel and a glass of water.  "Thanks," he told her, mopping sweat off himself.

"First heart attack?"  she asked.

"Yes, and of course it had to be a Rear Admiral.  If he had died...  I don't get how you ER staff do it."

"Honey," she told him with a tilt of her head, "When you seen what I seen coming through this Sickbay, a heart attack seems like a head cold."

Meanwhile, Serana was examining the internal bleeding on the monitor.  "Lucas," she called.  When he made it over, she asked, "Are you feeling better?"

"Kind of."

"Good.  Look at this and tell me what you see."

Lucas examined the image.  "Brachial artery?"

"Very good.  It's not a big rupture, but it's bleeding steadily, in a bad place.  Let's get it patched up."

Lucas was more comfortable with this procedure, as he did similar procedures in the lab.  He got the proper instruments and, with Serana's calm guidance, began repairing the artery.  The nurses seemed more at ease around him now that he was calmer.

The brachial artery was repaired in no time, but there was still more to do.  One of his kindeys failing, and it would have to be treated.  Luckily it was a medical procedure, not a surgical one.  Garibaldi's condition was improving, but he was still unconscious.  Time for the medication to wear off and for the effects of going into shock to dissapate should take care of that.  However, some pain management would be required for the next day or so.  He would pull through.
