t'Llhweiir nodded, keeping her expression carefully neutral. She was quickly
coming to understand that the biggest challenge of being Lasiter's
chief-of-staff would not be carrying out his orders, but understanding and
responding to the underlying intent. Strangely enough, their past association
did not make that any easier.
She was getting the impression that Lasiter not only expected Second Fleet's
command to fail, he wished them to do so.
She waited silently for him to continue.
"By the time that Second should be getting back us with their reports, I hope to be
on leave. I expect that they will not be ready, and me being on leave will give then
an extention to get their act in order..." Lasiter went on for a moment or two before
stopping. "You look like you are going to handle me. Don't do it. I know I am
asking you to do..."
