Joanna was surprised at Lasiter's plans. One would not normally have a victem of rape or other sort of violent crime be a participant in the investigation of the crime. They have an important role to play in the investigation, but being one of the investigators was not one of hem. Besides, from what she understood, David was not the only victim in this instance. She was not sure how to broach the subject with him.
