{A Re-Send}

Joanna was surprised at Lasiter's plans. One would not normally have a
victiem of rape or other sort of violent crime be a participant in the
investigation of the crime. They have an important role to play in the
investigation, but being one of the investigators was not one of them.
Besides, from what she understood, David was not the only victim in this
instance. She was not sure how to broach the subject with him.

"Sir, permission to speak freely."

"Of course, Counselor..."

"Admiral, I definitely agree with you about David's need to confront any
fears that might accumulate as a result of his experiences on his mission. I
am just not so sure that he should directly involved in the investigation in
a role greater than that of witness. He is full of anger, and it might
present an ethical dilemma that I am not sure he is ready to deal with
appropriately."

"Your point is well taken. When I can find a suitable investigator to
replace David on this assignment, how much help do you feel he can be?",
Lasiter said giving the impression that at some point injured or not, David
would have to talk about his experiences for public record...

"Please don't misunderstand me, Admiral," replied the Counselor. "I don't
think the investigation could be complete without David's testimony. His
perspective is unique and crucial to an understanding of the situation on
that planet. I see no problem with investigators talking to him about it
as long as they take things slow. They will know about that, though. They
are used to dealing with victims in the course of their work and have to
learn to balance the need for information with the need not to allow
thevictim's trauma to reach a level where they are unable to continue."

"I understand, Counselor. I am sure that whomever gets this assignment will
handle it with all due care. Is there anything that I should know about
David's state?"

Joanna took a moment to consider her response before speaking. "Well, David
is doing a lot better than one would think, particularly considering what
has happened since he has returned to Spacedock. He is doing very well.
That comes with a little bit of caution, though. If his treatment is not
maintained properly, he could have a remition or worse, his trouble mind
could feed on negative emotions to deal with the challenges he is facing."

"Keep in mind, Counselor, that while he is on light duty he is still the JAG. Cases
involving mistreatment of prisioners, excessive force, and the recent events here on
the station and on earth will undoubtedly come his way. He will be required to put
those feelings and emotions of his under wraps. Being the Judge Advocate General
requires nothing less.", Lasiter reminded her. David was in a bad position. He had
to recover and deal with his demons, but at the same time he could not keep them at
arms length...
