She waited for Daphne to exit first before following and letting
the
guards in to return the prisoner to his cell. Once he was gone, she let out a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding. "That wasss... inforrrmative," she said, still a little shell-shocked. Daphne started her response with a nod. "That is definitely an understatement. That did not go in the direction that I had expected. Do you think he is telling the truth?" The Caitian nodded. "I think sssso, but therrre'sss no way to be sssurre. His ssscent isss not what I'm usssed to, but I could sssensse no falsssehood. Onccce we agrrreed to let him talk to the Generrral, hisss ssscent changed frrrom worrry and fearrr to nerrrvousssnesss, I guesss about talking to the Generrral. Again, I can't be sssurrre, but that'sss what I ssscented." "Well, it definitely supports my instincts, though I have nothing like stronger senses to base that on." "What do you want to do? We could confrrront the Generrral with what we know, sssee what he sssayss, orrr let them talk firrrssst. I mussst admit, I've neverrr had to coorrrdinate prrrissonerrrs like thisss, ssso I'm hoping you have sssome idea of what to do." Planetary defense rarely, if ever, involved interrrogations of enemy prisoners, and in the odd event one was needed, civilian law enforcement authorities usually did the job with groups. In that event, multiple prisoners usually meant a criminal syndicate or other conspiracy, a law enforcement issue. "I have to admit that I don't have a strong background in interrogation myself. Most of my assignments placed me undercover. I think that we could probably do a little bit of both. The prisoners could be watched while we take the time to talk with the general. I don't think that we should put such discussions off. There is more to this situation than meets the eye. Talking with our last prisoner made that quite clear." (Tr'Lawsh?)
