Perry Morris opened a comm line and  warned them off,  but there was no
response to his calls.  At least there was no verbal  response.

The Peregrine-shuttle brought its weapons systems online almost  as soon as
he had announced that they were a Starfleet ship.  The  shuttles systems
targetted the Runabout.

I don't think these guys  consider us friends.  They are targeting us with
their  phasers."

"Raising shields," replied the Security Officer.  This was  definitely not
going as she had expected.  She continued to back them  away from the area.

The shuttle fired a few warning shots as it  approached the dark spot.  It
quickly sent out a signal to the spot, and  the spot blossomed in
transformation.  A moment later, the "eye" had  returned and started
flairing with energy before releasing it.  The emitted  beam struck the
shuttle and the ship simply disappeared.

McTiernan turned from his console.  "I think that might support our
hypothesis that it is some sort of transport device."

Aravis studied the CO.  He was pale but handling the pressure better than he
would have thought considering his behavior when they first met.
"Commander, did you get a reading on the signal sent from the shuttle to
initiate transport."

McTiernan nodded his head.

"Do you think we could duplicate it?"

"I believe so.  It was not a complicated code."

"We need to contact Spacedock about this," she said as she laid in a course
to bring them back to Station Kerry.
