"Thank you, Commander," she replied. She had never met Kitanya in a bad mood, but considering everything that had been going on the last couple of weeks she could understand a shortage of sleep and the resulting short tempers for high ranking officers. "Would it be all right if I went in?"

"Absolutely, Commander," said the synth-voice pleasantly.

The Caitian was sitting behind her desk, but there was a somewhat rank smell in the room. It could only be coming from the steaming coffee up beside the admiral's right hand. The mug itself was somewhat worn and faded, but Daphne could clearly see the insignia of a starship on it, the USS Defender. An old ship, a famous ship. But the liquid inside it stank.

Kitanya looked up. "Commanderrr," she smiled. She looked better, more rested. "Pleassse, come in, sssit down. Ssso how was yourrr firrrssst day?"
