Kit had done graduate work in weapons systems, and could take apart a
phaser, either a handheld or a ship system, and put it back together
again. She had even designed an updated photon torpedo guidance
system. But she was not an engine person. M'rrell had been a chief
engineer, though, and she'd picked up enough from him that she understood
there was a problem. That propulsion system, in the wrong hands, could
mean a fleet of enemy warships appearing as if out of thin air on the
Federation's doorstep before anyone could do anything about it.

She also suddenly remembered the missing ships, and knew that none of the
parts from those ships had made their way onto the black market, which
probably meant they were being kept whole by someone. She rechecked that
information, looking both at what kinds of ships had gone missing, and
whether the stolen parts would be of the appropriate type to retrofit those
ships.

The computer came back with a short answer- maybe. The parts could definately
be used to refit the missing ships, but a good deal of the components were not
compatible with the missing ships. It would be like putting brakes for a
Cooper Mini on a Ford F-350 pickup. The ships that gone missing were of newer
classes like the Intrepid Class (aka Voyager) and the Burke Class (ooc:
something I made up) -frigates, and the parts were for ships like the Galaxy 2
class and Excelssior 2 class- cruisers.
