"Helluva life," Matt said, exchanging the cigar for some cognac. "Having to
kill your own kind in order to survive. There are those among us who hunt
other
immortals. I am not one of them," he said. "But if someone comes for me, I
will, and do, defend myself. And so far, at least, I've managed to do so
effectively."
"Matthew, I must admit that all of this sounds like tale of myth and legend.
If
I didn't know you as I do, I would be chastizing you for taking me on this fit
of fantasy. I'd be lying if I told you that I didn't have questions, many of
them in fact. To start, why tell me this? Why now?"
>From Lasiter's body language and tone of voice, Matthew could see that he was
still trying to process the information. He was suspicious, possibly
skeptical,
but open minded and trusting of his friend.
"I'm telling you this now," Matthew told him, easing back into the sofa,
relaxing a bit. Sam ws believing him, and he didn't seem angry that Matthew
had withheld this information.
And he didn't seem angry that Matthew had this blessing (or curse, depending
upon how you looked at it) in light of the fact that Samuel was facing his own
all too imminent mortality.
"...because you've asked me to undertake a mission to draw out an assassin."
He turned to look squarely at Samuel. "Use me as bait, Sam," he said, almost
begging. "I have less to lose than almost anyone else." (OOC: my memory is a
bit faulty, thanks to my advanced age, but wasn't Kit part of the crew that
gained her own type of immortality?)
{OOC: Yes she was, I believe.}
Using Matt, and a few others, as bait was his intention, but the plea to be
used as such struck him wrong.
"Some may disagree, with you in that you have less to loose. Some may say that
you have more to loose. But I see your point.", he said not trying to argue
with the groom. "Why are you eager to temp fate when you have just been
married?"
