turned to look squarely at Samuel. "Use me as bait, Sam," he said, almost
begging. "I have less to lose than almost anyone else."
Using Matt, and a few others, as bait was his intention, but the plea to be
used
as such struck him wrong.
"Some may disagree, with you in that you have less to loose. Some may say that
you have more to loose. But I see your point.", he said not trying to argue
with the groom. "Why are you eager to temp fate when you have just been
married?"
"Because, Sam, death to me is little more than a temporary nuisance. But to
Bedru...." To him this was obvious. He knew about Kit's longevity, but he
wasn't sure Samuel did, so he didn't push that point. "Of the group of us
going, I've got the best chance of surviving an attack."
"Believe me when I say that I see your point, but the three of you would make a
much bigger, tastier opportunity. And this is bigger than an assassin. It is
also about the rash of officer obductions. With the three of you together,
there is a high probability that both situations can be dealt with."
"I am not eager to put good people in harms way, and I do it only after very
careful consideration of the risks and benefits. After consideration, I would
like to have the three of you go, if for no other reason to increase the odds
of success- all coming home alive and the security threat resolved."
