Ok, folks: it works. I did the completely clean, 'Net install of CentOS 5.2
(32-bit, if it makes any difference). Plain vanilla, server. I added LVM
partitions for oracle and satellite, mounted 'em.

Installed Oracle (and sqlplus works just find without tnsnames.ora in /etc, as
long as ORACLE_HOME and LD_LIBRARY_PATH are set).

wget
http://stahnma.fedorapeople.org/spacewalk-tools/5Server/i386/rhel-instnum-1.0.8-1.el5.noarch.rpm
rpm -ivh rhel-instnum-1.0.8-1.el5.noarch.rpm

Had to install pyOpenSSL to install rhnlib
yum install pyOpenSSL
wget
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~lrsmith/Spacewalk/rpms/rhnlib-2.2.5-1.noarch.rpm
rpm -ivh rhnlib-2.2.5-1.noarch.rpm

Then I could successfully do yum install spacewalk.
*THIS* time, when I ran spacewalk-setup --disconnected, it did *not* freeze,
and completed successfully. Btw, I can't be positive - I unfortunately didn't
take a note, but when it froze, previously, it did not get to installation
complete; I think it froze after updateing d/b config; whether it was on
setting up cobbler, or restarting services, but it was one or the other.

And I can get to manage channels. So, now my manager is having me reset up a
production server. He doesn't want me to spend a lot of time on figuring out
what broke it, but as time allows, I intend to lock down this server, following
what they did, and if I can find what breaks it, I will post here.

Thanks to everyone - your help has been very much appreciated. Sorry if I got
surly, but my manager wanted this running, so there was pressure to make it so.
