Errr, not true. There is an --updateany (I believe that's what it is named) flag that you can use on the ESv3 install for any version of RH. I've tried it with a test 7.3 box with no problems.

There's a follow-up warning that Red Hat hasn't tested it, and a recommendation to reinstall the redhat-release package afterward to make sure it identifies itself with the right version.
