One should be able to automatically whitelist a discussion group to which they have opted in and confirmed, thereby allowing all traffic on that list through their whitelist. The academics are easy enough - for this list, just whitelist one of these two headers, frex: To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or Sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Part of the problems with *any type of listing (whitelisting, blacklisting) is that it's only as intelligent as the person managing it and designing the technology. Much like the inevitable deluge of MS Exchange Vacation Autoreplies that happen on any technical list when there's a major tech event somewhere, if the software doesn't know not to respond to certain messages, it will. Part of that is a design issue, and part of it is an administrator issue.
