Mike:
I report spam via two means: SpamCop and direct LART's.
With spam that I receive in my Outlook 2000 client, I disconnect from the
Internet and ensure that image rendering is turned off. Although I get the
header info via the Properties window, I inevitably must access the body
text, which I obtain when I choose to forward the spew for a direct LART.
When I forward the spew, I'm basically opening it.
I don't have that "luxury" when I process spew that arrives in my Hotmail,
Excite, or Yahoo accounts. I have to display the spew to get to the full
headers and/or to display the source. I'm not worried about one-pixel gifs
and URL click-throughs since I'm not rendering the gifs or clicking through
anything.
Beyond that, there's no telling what happens with JavaScript embedded spew.
No doubt that conniving and devious minds that are determined to trespass
and violate privacy rights will still want to work around those of us who
turn off images and never click-through.
Hmmm. I thought that "y'all" was the plural of you?
