I tend to agree with Michiel on this one.

I don't want my code fixes and modifications going into the spectra 
codebase which Macromedia is then going to make people pay for unless there 
is some sort of return on my invested time.

If the Spectra codebase is available for free then I'm happy to give all my 
modifications and enhancements away for free, but I am not keen on giving 
Macromedia (or any other company for that matter) free development services 
for a product which they are selling. Unless of course there is some 
alternative benefit to be gained from doing so. Having my name beside the 
code fix doesn't really cut it for me except for minor bug fixes.

Completely rewriting part of the Spectra architecture, like the custom 
security model written by Webworld Studios, simply wouldn't be worth 
posting to the site if all you get is a mention beside the code. You are 
also giving ownership of that code to Macromedia which allows them to take 
it and use it in pretty much any way they want without so much as saying 
thank you.
