In defense of the fine young folks there at Macromedia, how they store their
content object data is up to them and shouldn't effect how we code it. After
all, the COAPI is a layer of abstraction above the data. Some might call it
the business logic. The goal should be to write your code at business logic
level and let the people that write the business logic (MM) worry about the
data level. Code that relies heavily on retrieving content through queries
to the database directly is asking for trouble. Granted, it's unavoidable in
some situations, but a more mature API should resolve that.
