I must admit I haven't looked at it in detail but, in some respects, that
sounds even worse as it will require more processing power to do it.
As pppoa3 is running at nice -19, maybe the kernel isn't getting enough time
to do the processing before sending it on to pppd (or pppd not getting time
to decode it again).
Ed Gomez suggested it might be a buggy USB chipset. Once I have investigated
further (another couple of months probably) I might buy a usb card.
Unfortunately it is going to be a pig to extract the machine from its
home so "upgrading" the machine it likely to be a whole days work, and
will require permission from my partner to empty her wardrobe ;-)
I have tried changing the "niceness" of pppoa3 but I haven't tried making it
positive (yet).
