are the pppoatm and the modem firmware loaded at startup? if not loaded, you can't use the modem. have you granted root priviledges to all the users? if not the script cannot connect? are the vci/vpi ok?? if not your isp could not grant you access. are the user and pass ok?? if not your isp cannot grant access. try to see if you reply yes to all these questions. if you do so, then remove the drivers and do the procedure once again trying to compile the source and not with the source already compiled.
