Hi there

I am completely new to Linux having just loaded on ubuntu to give it a try.
I am, therefore, a complete novice with this system and trying to find my
way around in a somewhat bewildered state!

The first problem is to try and get my Sppedtouch modem working so I can get
online.

I have followed the advice given, but the modem is not working. I have
ended up with the following observations and wondered if someone can advise
me further:

Secrets

I created both chap-secrets and pap-secrets, which were subsequently copied
to /etc/ppp as instructed.

These files seem to be protected and show with a padlock and a red cross
sign on them, presumably restricting access. Does this need to be changed?

Configuration file

This made created as instructed and copied to /etc/ppp/peers. The file is
marked with a red cross - do I need to do anything to change permissions on
thi file?

Bootscript

* dial appears to have been copied to /etc/init.d correctly
* S95dial appears to be copiedOK to etc/rc2.d
* resolve.conf is present in /etc, with a blue arrow (presumably a link) and
a red cross (presumably restricted access). Does the latter need to be
changed? However, there is no resolv.conf file in /ppp, just an empty
folder named resolv.

It appears something is not quite right here but I cannot put my finger on
it. Any comments, please??

I presume from the article that the modem should spring into life and that I
should automatically be connected when the computer boots up. Is this
correct?

Do I need to do any configuration using kppp?

Thanks for any help forthcoming.

Roger.
